Job Searching - Law

In the midst of job searching, things have gotten a little heavy. Here is to getting back on track and avoiding the lakes in the road. Q & A:

Why did you choose law as a career?
I chose law because I wanted to understand how things worked and how to change things for the better. I approach problems with the objective to persuade and explain so that people come to an agreement. Law gives a number of tools to solve problems: persuasive writing, strong oral arguments, research skills, alternative dispute resolution, and to my surprise time management skills. I see law as a career where I can continue to learn and make a difference in clients' lives.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself working in labour, immigration or other areas of the law where I can apply my problem solving skills to the greatest effect. I hope to find a balance between work, community involvement and family. I will have argued cases in court and before tribunals and I will have participated in a number of alternative dispute resolution processes. I will also run a 1:45 half marathon.

If you were the Dean of the Law School what changes would you make?
If I were the Dean, I would create a program in the first two weeks of law school that would give a sketch of the legal system, how a case works and how the courses that we take relate. This would give a foundation for the rest of the program to build upon.

Here are some more questions from the Yale Law School site (pdf).

Good luck to other job searchers in this troubled employment climate!
